the faceted wooden box

Nicknamed “cassiopeia”, a madeiguincho treehouse, based in Portugal, seeks to touch the ground lightly. while the architecture and carpentry studio ensures that its work is both sustainable and environmentally friendly, this contemporary pole aims to disappear into its surroundings, proving its low impact. Basically, the wooden project embraces its role as a children’s playground with multiple routes that include a fire pole, slide, swing, zipline, mesh bed, monkey bars and a wall sculptural climbing frame with legs growing from the garden below.

Cassiopeia treehouse: a carpenter’s hut

the madeiguincho team designs and builds their Cassiopeia treehouse with meticulous attention to detail. the project showcases the studio’s combined heritage of architecture and carpentry. the roots, or foundation, of the tiny structure are the concealed metal ground screws that support the so-called “legs and arms” or columns and beams. above, the inner “skeleton” frame receives the skin constructed with CLT panels. these wall and roof elements are finished in a black tone which is then covered with a horizontal slat wood system. the rhythmic grain of the wood slats follows the faceted geometry of the treehouse, enhancing its shape.

gonçalo madeira marrote, founder of madeiguincho comments:cassiopeia is a treehouse dream born in a garden without trees; a refuge for adults to disconnect from the virtual world; a multi-level play area for children; a privileged place to observe the complexity of the universe through the objective of the telescope. ‘

MICROJIG’s ZEROPLAY Miter Bar Double Pack finally lets you build a table saw sled for $ 25 https://www.concowoodworking.com/microjigs-zeroplay-miter-bar-double-pack-finally-lets-you-build-a-table-saw-sled-for-25/ Wed, 25 Aug 2021 21:58:12 +0000 https://www.concowoodworking.com/microjigs-zeroplay-miter-bar-double-pack-finally-lets-you-build-a-table-saw-sled-for-25/

Amazon offers the MICROJIG ZEROPLAY Dual Miter Bar Pack for $ 25.10 shipped. Down from $ 30 to $ 35, today’s deal sits $ 1 off Amazon’s all-time low in early 2020 and is the best we’ve followed since then. If you are a carpenter and have tried making your own jigs or sleds in the past, but miter bars have held you back (as they have for me), then this is your ticket. I chose this exact kit to make a table saw sled for my workshop and I love the quality it offers. You can set it to a specific width for your miter slot and not have to worry about it growing or shrinking with the seasons. Top-to-bottom installation makes it simple to install, and they will fit any 3/4 by 3/8 inch T-rail miter slot. Rated 4.4 / 5 stars. Go below to find out more.

If you only need one miter bar then ditch the double pack for one of MICROJIG’s ZEROPLAY miter bars. This is essentially the same product that you will find above, just with one instead of two. Entering at 16 $, it’s not as good overall, but in the end it would make the perfect buy for a joint sled if you need it instead of a cross cut sled.

Speaking of carpentry, remember that Home Depot takes up to $ 200 off Milwaukee combo kits, stand-alone tools and more. These are perfect whether you are a hobbyist or a professional carpenter, as Milwaukee has unbeatable quality for many of its tools. In fact, the Milwaukee M12 line is my personal choice for 12V cordless tools and what I currently have in store.

Learn more about MICROJIG ZEROPLAY miter bars:

  • No slipping, side play or seasonal warping
  • Top-down installation for quick and easy mounting on jigs, fixtures and sleds
  • ZEROPLAY Miter Bars will fit ALL standard miter slots (3/4 “x 3/8”) that measure between 0.73 “and 0.79” wide and at least 5/16 “deep

Global markets for hand tools and woodworking tools over $ 10 billion at https://www.concowoodworking.com/global-markets-for-hand-tools-and-woodworking-tools-over-10-billion-at/ Wed, 25 Aug 2021 09:38:36 +0000 https://www.concowoodworking.com/global-markets-for-hand-tools-and-woodworking-tools-over-10-billion-at/

Dublin, 25 Aug 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – The report “Global Hand Tools & Woodworking Tools Market Forecast to 2026” has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com offer.

The market size for hand tools and woodworking tools is expected to grow from USD 8.4 billion in 2021 to USD 10.3 billion by 2026, with a CAGR of 4.0%.

The growth of the market is attributed to the increase in commercial and residential construction and infrastructure projects, the adoption of hand tools in households for residential / DIY purposes as well as the growth of manufacturing and increased repair and maintenance operations around the world.

However, factors such as increased security risks and concerns over improper use of hand tools are holding back the market growth. On the other hand, the development of single variable size / multitasking tools that respond to multiple operations could increase the demand for hand tools, and increasing hand tool automation to reduce physical labor could stimulate the use of hand tools and should create opportunities for the adoption of hand tools and woodworking tools in the years to come.

In addition, the lack of hand tools of all specifications / dimensions to prepare end users for all possible fields of application poses a challenge for the hand tools and woodworking tools market.

The fastest growing online distribution channel during the forecast period

Online distribution channels can be seen changing the way customers shop. They provide customers with many additional benefits such as home delivery of products and offer an online display of a wide variety of products and brands to choose from through their online e-commerce platforms. Various third-party distributors sell hand tools on online platforms.

This helps customers to compare, evaluate, study and select the best suitable hand tool. These online platforms have enabled many hand tool manufacturers to sell their products directly to end customers. Large manufacturing organizations can be seen launching their online distribution channels with their e-commerce platforms.

Professional end users will hold the largest share of the hand tools and woodworking tools market by 2026

The business end-user segment market is expected to hold the largest share during the forecast period. With the increase in population and the development of infrastructure in the world, professional applications such as plumbing, electrification and carpentry have experienced strong growth.

In addition, growth in other industries, such as oil and gas, electronics, automotive, aerospace, energy, mining and shipbuilding, is also contributing to the growth of the professional use of hand tools and carpentry tools with increasing fields of application.

APAC Hand Tools and Woodworking Tools Market Expected to Grow at Highest CAGR

The growth of the hand tools and woodworking tools market in the APAC region can be attributed to the rapid industrialization and boom in construction activities in countries such as India, China, Australia and Japan. Hand tools are widely used in construction and industrial activities.

Even the governments of major countries are taking initiatives to develop infrastructure and construction plans and to bring about industrial development with the increasing number of industrial plants and manufacturing units. However, the pandemic resulted in disruptions in supply chain activities, loss of revenue and a slowdown in production activities which somehow impacted the growth of the market, which ultimately impacted on the economy.

Major players featured in this report are: Stanley Black & Decker (US), Apex Tool Group (US), Snap-On Incorporated (US), Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd (China), Klein Tools (USA), Husqvarna (Sweden), Akar Auto Industries Ltd. (India) and Hangzhou Great Star Industrial Co. Ltd. (China) and others.

]]> The company creates a “dugout mug” made from MLB baseball bats https://www.concowoodworking.com/the-company-creates-a-dugout-mug-made-from-mlb-baseball-bats/ Tue, 24 Aug 2021 01:05:10 +0000 https://www.concowoodworking.com/the-company-creates-a-dugout-mug-made-from-mlb-baseball-bats/

Jay Crawford digs into “Dugout Mugs,” which offers fans new ways to enjoy their favorite games.

Tampa, Florida – A few weeks ago I had a wedding in Bay Village and saw them drinking these really cool mugs. There was also a glass of chilled champagne, but it did not contain any glass. Just a tree.

They were all made of baseball bats.

Even cooler, they all had the Cleveland Indians ‘C’ logo on them. It won’t be that long since the Indians changed their name to Guardian.

So I spoke to a very successful founder “Mug Dugout” about the next steps for the business and what the whole concept looked like.

“I was a varsity baseball coach, but there was a batting coach who made training tools. He cut a baseball bat in half with a handsaw, ”recalls Randall Thompson. “There was a light bulb moment where I saw a lot of loose baseball bat barrels in the dougout and was able to pull out the center of the bat and turn it into a drinking cup.”

And this is the birth of the “Dugout Mug”.

Thompson’s vision turned into a dream, creating a unique wooden mug. The various sizes and styles available will quench the thirst of baseball fans.

“So we take the button of the baseball bat and turn it into a shot glass. We also take it like a baseball bat ticket or barrel and sculpt it like a mini baseball bat, but it’s a wine glass. “Thompson explains. “And the barrel of the baseball bat was turned into a drinking mug.” I also took the handle of the baseball bat and turned it into a bottle opener.

Turning that dream into a craft for making mugs has never been easier for Randall. In fact, it required creative thinking.

“I have no experience in carpentry, and generally no experience in carpentry,” adds Thompson. “I took these drums, cut out the handles, and tried dropping the drill press onto these drums, but realized it wasn’t a move, so I finally found a wood lathe in the Maine. I logged in and said “Hey”. This is what I am trying to do. Can you help me Can you do this? And in about a week, he was able to find them. ”

“Dugout Cups” can be found in all 30 MLB stadiums and nearly 50 minor league baseball stadiums. Click here For more information.

Woodworking secrets lost behind Stradivarius violins revealed https://www.concowoodworking.com/woodworking-secrets-lost-behind-stradivarius-violins-revealed/ Sun, 22 Aug 2021 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.concowoodworking.com/woodworking-secrets-lost-behind-stradivarius-violins-revealed/

“The alum stiffened the wood by forming chemical bonds between the fibers of the wood. We call this chemical crosslinking.

“In a nutshell, they created stiffer wood with thicker bundles of cellulose fibers. Stradivari did it with salt and potash and Guarneri did it with alum and lime.

Chemical alterations in wood fibers made it stronger, which allowed artisans to make vital soundboards – the acoustically most important part of a violin – thinner and stronger without straining. crack.

These soundboards improved the loudness at lower frequencies, the researchers say, and “added shine and reduced harshness.”

The treatments were a closely guarded secret in Cremona and no written record of them has survived.

By keeping their methods a secret, Stradivari and Guarneri ensured that they made the best products in the world, but they also consigned their expertise and knowledge to the abyss of unregistered history when the golden age of the luthiers ended in mid-1750.

“No one knew they were applying chemical treatments. In a way, they fooled us for 250 years, ”said Dr. Tai.

“We use analytical chemistry to recover some of the lost knowledge, but it’s far from complete. I believe chemically modified wood is the last piece of the puzzle for their tonal advantage.

“I also believe that once we properly understand the modification of wood through chemical and physical processes, modern, highly skilled manufacturers can match or even surpass Stradivari’s tonal excellence. “

However, the researchers warn that it will be extremely difficult to recreate the exact recipe and process, as reverse engineering formulas are notoriously difficult.

Academics say the maple used in violins is expected to start to deteriorate after 400 years, so parts of the instruments may start to deteriorate soon. Spruce is thought to take at least 800 years before it begins to decompose.
