The owner of a British family carpentry business has been crowned entrepreneur of the year for the second time this year.

Amarjit Binji, Managing Director of AJB Groupbeat tough competition to win this prestigious title at the 2022 Nachural Entrepreneurship Awards. The winners of the 21 categories were announced at a black-tie gala held in Leicester on Friday 13 May.

Showing their full support for Amarjit on the night, he was joined by family members, friends, colleagues and his two sons, Aaron and Jai, aged 10 and 12 respectively.

In March 2022, Amarjit was the proud recipient of the same title, ‘Entrepreneur of the Year 2022’ at the Midlands Business Awards.

“It is an absolute honor to win this prestigious award,” says Amarjit. “It’s further proof, I think, of effective teamwork. I happen to be the head of this company, but its success so far is due to our fantastic workforce which is an integral part of the extended family of the AJB group.”

Candidates were evaluated on their entrepreneurial leadership, talent management, financial performance, societal impact, degree of difficulty in navigating and overcoming obstacles to drive business success, and their originality, among other essential contributions and attributes.

Amarjit was one of three finalists in the “Entrepreneur of the Year” category. He was selected by a panel of independent judges for his outstanding positive leadership, coupled with a strong track record of business success and driving a positive agenda for best practice and change in his industry while demonstrating his commitment to community through the company’s charitable activities.

Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE DL, Chairman of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), Chairman and Founder of Cobra Beer, adds: “The UK economy continues to thrive even in these unprecedented times, thanks to contributions from businesses across our great nation. It is the credit of business leaders like Amarjit who continue to persevere and pursue their dreams and ambitions where the sky is the limit.

Amarjit’s career started at the age of 12. He started out as a carpenter and joiner. Frustrated by the lack of innovation and modern technique in his field of specialization, he decided to create his own company in 1999. AJB Group currently employs about forty people, including his brother Mandeep, his sister Kully and his best friend more 35-year-old Hitesh, who work as Operations Manager, HR Manager and Project Manager respectively. Plant Manager Darren Moore is the longest serving employee, having been with the company for 23 years.
